Are they the next WWE Superstars?

Dozens of WWE hopefuls took to the ring and paid their dues last weekend. They rolled and dropped hard to the canvas trying to impress stern WWE recruiters.

“I’ve been training for the last three months and it was very hard but I never gave up,” said Dinesh Kumar who flew in from India just for this tryout.

“Although I have been training since I was 17 years old, the training for this is completely different. I had to push myself to the limits,” added Canadian Lana Evanson.

The opportunity of making it to pro-wrestling paradise doesn’t come around often and the requirements are demanding.

Syrian participant M. Munacf Farho summed it up perfectly. “They need a combination, like if you have the charisma, the character, if you have the look, if you can move. It’s a lot of things that have to be combined in one. It’s really hard.” he said

But these potential recruits were unfazed by the difficulty, they know what’s at stake and they’ve got their eyes on the prize.

“It’s life-changing. If I get this opportunity, it means that I’ll actually be doing what I love, which are sports and acting,” Evanson added.

US-based WWE’s latest venture in the region is WWE Wal300ha which is a new weekly Arabic show on OSN and premiered last Thursday, May 4.

Reasons to go with the Flow

There’s a new health-oriented bistro in town, and they’re youthful and passionate about sharing to with the world that healthy food tastes good.

Flow not only offers energising and nourishing dishes, it takes people’s dietary requirements into consideration, so people who have certain allergies or who want gluten-free food will still be able to dine and enjoy.

“We take our ingredients and we adapt that into certain recipes, to certain dishes so that people can have them in a healthy way. People come in here and they fuel themselves.” says Flow Chef Christopher Kinsley.

I tried their Egg Arlington, which has an egg, whole wheat muffin, smoked salmon, avocado, paprika and yoghurt hollandaise as replacement for butter. It was as delicious as it was healthy. And I can’t recommend their Carrot Cake enough, you’ve just got to taste it for yourself.

“We were given this concept by the youth minister and when we took this concept on we understood the whole thing behind it. Healthy food for all … We looked at certain ingredients like nuts, seeds and certain organic vegetables. We’re getting the nutrients into the dish.” Chef Kinsley adds.

Flow is located at the first floor of Jumeirah Emirates Towers.

One quick yet intense WestinWORKOUT session

Circuit training has always been one of my favourites when it comes to working out. My friends and I dropped by The Westin Dubai, Al Habtoor City, to do just that at their revolutionary WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio. In the circuit, our trainer had us doing bursts of varied intense exercises where the number of repetitions didn’t matter. What mattered was giving it all you’ve got for the time that’s allotted per station. There were five stations demanding for both your strength and cardio. It’s a great combo which used body weight exercises and gym equipment. I particularly liked the first station which was the plank position one arm alternate cable row and the finisher, which was speed steppers.

WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio houses state-of-the-art equipment and offers yoga, Pilates, core, crossfit and stretch classes. And did I mention you’ve got a stunning view of the Dubai Canal and the Burj Khalifa from the gym?

Holistic training with Julie Rammal

Renowned Arab celebrity fitness trainer Julie Rammal was in town last week for the launch of her ‘Eye Projection’ and ‘Image Projection’ healing techniques. With 17 years in the fitness industry, she’s mastered holistic training and applying them to clients.

“Holistic training focuses on the body, mind and soul. We’re moving into a new era of time … we’re becoming more connected to the external world and losing connection to ourselves.” Rammal said.

She aims to help clients re-connect with themselves, find happiness, lose weight, and positively impact their lives. Her ‘Eye Projection’ techniques, which combines various methods to project the ‘image’ that her clients want themselves to be, are inspired by ancient healing practices but customised to fit the modern landscape.

“After training for many years and studying ayurveda, studying the third eye centre, and studying ancient methods how to improve my clients’ results, I invented what we call the third eye projection.” Rammal added.
