There’s an overabundance of fitness programmes now, happening all at once. Most of them will probably develop into staples in the near future. One such routine that’s becoming increasingly popular in Dubai is the trampoline-based workout. And adding yet another dimension to this is Kate Austin’s Ultimate Bounce.

“There are others doing trampolines, but it’s not the same as what I do.” Austin says.

Frequent patron Anel Weideman agrees: “It’s a lot of fun, I enjoy it. It just wants me to come back for more especially with the music playing and Kate in front doing the routines.”

Ultimate Bounce has you literally jumping about with joy to the beat of the music. You aren’t dancing per se; I’ve done it and heaven help me I do not move gracefully, but the rhythm drives your movements. And when you’re familiar with the tune, it becomes much more enjoyable.

“I choose current, bouncy, clubby type songs… even cheesy ones sometimes and I make routines to them so it’s recognisable to the customer. When they hear that song come on the radio, it kind of triggers their mind with regards to coming back. It’s a good way of keeping repeat customers, it keeps them engaged all the time,” says Austin.

Austin was the winner of the UK Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Welsh Championships in 2010 and she finished first in the Flex Lewis Classic Women’s Open in the US in 2011. This foundation led her to numerous endeavours before jumping, pun intended, to a career of trampoline fitness.

I’m attracting a demographic that doesn’t necessarily want to go to a gym… That’s what my aim is — to get normal people into fitness.”

“In the past four years, I opened four gyms in the UK and all of them very successful. I devised a few workouts and they took off massively. I had some of the largest classes in the UK, over a hundred people every single night… But trampolines are a passion of mine. It’s a very low-impact way of exercising; it’s demanding, don’t get me wrong, but it’s so much fun people don’t realise,” Austin says.

Tick both keywords, demanding and fun, combine them and you get a great workout without ‘working out’. Ultimate Bounce is an awesome alternative to hitting the weights. Not everyone wants to lift.

Austin says: “I’m attracting a demographic that doesn’t necessarily want to go to a gym… your normal everyday person. That’s what my aim is — to get normal people into fitness. Everybody needs to look after their health at the end of the day… There’s far more people in this world who want to lose weight but they don’t want to go to a gym. They don’t like being put through their paces, so to speak, with lifting. They don’t like lifting things and it hurts them so much. With this, they burn loads and loads of calories but they don’t feel I’m hurting them in that respect.”

Ultimate Bounce even has something to offer for mothers and their children, as Austin adds: “It’s a win-win situation. Mums can lose weight and we tire the kids out at the same time. It’s quite unique in that respect. There’s not many fitness classes that you can do that in.”

And if you fancy a routine with much higher intensity, Ultimate Bounce has that covered, too! “I’ve taken professional rugby teams on the trampolines and absolutely destroyed them. It’s very versatile, there’s add-ons to it where we use weights and stuff like that,” says Austin.

Austin currently conducts Ultimate Bounce classes at Super Boost Gym, Al Barsha. Sessions just started this October but her unique brand of fitness is already a hit with participants.
