Tuesdays get gourmet at Le Classique

The French restaurant at Emirates Golf Club is relaunching its Gourmet Tuesdays on September 6. The weekly dinner features a regularly changing menu of French dishes using local and European produce. Running every Tuesday from 7-10.30pm, there’s a starter and dessert buffet and an a la carte menu of 10 dishes to choose for the main course. Think seared foie gras, slow-cooked duck, lamb with pea puree, seared scallops and warm beetroot salad with potato ice cream. The buffet includes an extensive cheese selection, we’re told. For food only, it’s Dh245, or Dh415 with beverages; call 04-4179999.

Tortilla opens this week

The taco takeover continues: Tortilla, a London chain, opens on August 31 at Dubai Festival City Mall, serving up California-style Mexican food (which brings us to the question: Why did Baja Fresh have to close at Dubai Mall?). But back to the topic at hand: Tortilla. It’s run by Californians Brandon and Lisa Stephens, and is opening here with Ethos group, the folks behind Sushi Art, Rita’s and Kababji. The approach is build-your-own burritos, tacos and quesadillas. If that’s not enough for you, head there on opening day at 4pm for special events and a competition.

Sushi for the Mr Men and Little Misses

Sushi Art is targeting the youngest sushi fanatics from September 4 with new bento-style boxes inspired by the Mr Men and Little Miss story books, which celebrate their 45th anniversary this year. Each bento contains 42 sushi bites, including three recipes created for the collaboration: veggie roll, a tataki and salmon spring roll that combines, and tuna sushi, and is Dh195.
