More fancy Turkish on the way

Besh

Is Turkish food the new Peruvian? Well, we’ve had two hot restaurant announcements in as many weeks, so we’re going to say there’s at least an inkling of a trend. (And let’s not forget the talk that Babaji, the Turkish pide restaurant from Hakkasan founder Alan Yau, is opening in Dubai soon). Last week, we told you about Ruya, opening after the summer at the Grosvenor House in Dubai. Now comes Besh, with vintage recipes and ingredients — olive oil, cheese, flour — sourced from Anatolia for dishes such as pide, lahmacun and guvec. Chef Vedat Basaran is known for reinvigorating traditional dishes. The restaurant will open at Sheraton Hotel Mall of the Emirates, next month. Call 04-3772353.

Ramusake’s ladies’ night

Chicken and ginger gyoza, served at Ramusake, which launches a ladies night on August 3, with free drinks and special offers on snacks.

This new Japanese restaurant at the Hilton Doubletree on JBR has not wasted any time in getting itself a ladies night with a cheesy name: Miss Independent Ladies’ Night will take place every Wednesday night starting August 3; women get free select beverages from 8pm-midnight, special offers on sharing snacks, and there’s music — smooth R’n’B and Hip Hop by DJ Adam Graca.

It’s brunchtime in Dubai

Jamaican restaurant Ting Irie's family-style Friday brunch spread.

We’ve got two new brunches for your radar this week.

First up: You can now get your jerk chicken on a Friday afternoon. Ting Irie, the Jamaican restaurant at the Souk Al Manzil, has started its “Family Fun’ch”, from 1–4pm, serving small plates of food, family style (and all-you-can-eat). Dishes include fish escovich, Jamaican patties and carnival funnel cake. A DJ plays from 2pm. It’s Dh195 for adults and Dh95 for children; under fives eat for free. Call 04-5575601.

The new Japanese-Peruvian menu served at Beats-n-Brunch, at The Act Dubai.

At The Act, Beats N Brunch has a new Japanese-Peruvian menu, plus, the theatrical show you’d expect from the nightclub/cabaret. Brunch is from 2-5pm, and is Dh395 for women and Dh495 for me, including house drinks. The performers continue after 5pm, plus there’s house music by DJs Jean B and Sam Starks. Call 04-3551116.

Asha’s India’s Pride festival

The Indian restaurant at Wafi, founded by singer Asha Bhosle, is showcasing 10 biriyani and kebab dishes that the restaurant says Bhosle has personally tried and tested in her kitchen, until the end of October. They include chamandi prawn biryani (a coconut dish from Kerala); and Calicut gosht biryani, with lamb and spices. Call 04-3244100.

Business lunch in Abu Dhabi

The new Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi — you’ll find it on Al Maryah Island — is now serving a Dh55 (plus tax) business lunch. It’s at Crust, the hotel’s “market-inspired” waterside restaurant and they say, is served in 45 minutes. It includes a soup or salad and a main course — think red quinoa and watercress salad with sumac marinated shallots and mustard-lemon dressing, or Cobb Salad; Lamb Meat Balls with maize mash and spicy tomato dip, or New York steak with grilled red chicory and hollandaise sauce. It’s offered on weekdays, noon-3pm; call 02-3332222.
