Try a taste of Siberia

It may not have been on your culinary radar, but if you want to try the food of Siberia, here’s your chance? Russian restaurant Vesna, at the Conrad Dubai, has a new tasting menu from August 20 with molecular gastronomy style dishes — and it’s only for one table per day, of no more than 10 people. Talk about exclusive. Dishes include king crab; Kamchatka salad with puff potatoes and seaweed; Stroganoff 2.0; and to finish: “My grandmother’s lovely flower pot”. Indian Independence Day meals

Celebrate on August 15 at these restaurants in Dubai. Bombay Brasserie at Taj Dubai will serve the nation’s classics at an evening brunch (7-11.30pm) for Dh225 per person. Dishes served include chaat. vada pao, tawa gosht (lamb), dum ka murgh (chicken), teen mirch ka jhinga (prawns), shahi paneer makhana (cottage cheese) and a selection of desserts with a cup of masala chai. Atul Kochhar’s Rang Mahal has a four-course menu of modern Indian dishes inspired by heros of Indian history (Vikram Sarabhai, Professor C.V. Raman, Birbal Sahni and Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose). It runs from August 14-16 and is Dh250 per person. Mint Leaf of London is celebrating in a different way: There are three free drinks for women and 30 per cent off the menu for all in The Lounge and entertainement by Geo Safix ‘The Percussionist’ and DJ Vinn. Antique Bazaar at Four Points by Sheraton Bur Dubai celebrates from August 14-16 with a set menu with vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes such as paneer makhani, subz korma and bhindi masala, fish masala curry, chicken korma and saagwala gosht. Penrose Lounge launches afternoon tea

This new spot at the boutique and beautiful Four Seasons Hotel in DIFC has a modern take on the afternoon ritual, with a five-tiered stand with savory and sweet treats, Jing teas or bubbly. Think mini smoked salmon bagels, Boston lobster rolls, foie gras mousse, truffled eggs and beef bresaola muffuletta, macaroons, raspberry financiers, royal opera torte, chocolate marquis, and strawberries and cream verrine. Zoco is opening at the The Atrium

Following the launch of the Rose and Crown pub at Al Habtoor City’s The Atrium, we can bring you the news of a new Mexican joint in the same location. Zoco, which also serves dishes from other Latin American nations, will open on the second floor of The Atrium with a license in September.

It’s a modern eatery which will also have a DJ; in the kitchen is chef Jimmy Rojas, who’s trained under the likes of Alain Ducasse and Oscar Calleja and worked at Annua in Spain and Moto in Chicago.
