Pizza for Dh1 on Thursday, and you’d better be quick

A food delivery company has announced it will be delivering pizza costing just one dirham in Dubai this Thursday. There’s just one catch: There are only 1,000 of the cut-price pizzas available, and it’s on a first-come, first-serve basis. Want to be one of the lucky ones noshing on the best of Italy? You have to order between 11am-2pm, either on the mobile app or from your desktop browser. Restaurants serving the Dh1 pizza are: 800 Pizza, Freedom Pizza, Il Caffe Di Roma, NKD Pizza, Pinza!, Riva, Rossovivo and Taste of Italy. The delivery fee will also be waived.

Abu Dhabi, you have a Five Guys. Join the queue

The total takeover of the UAE by burger joints continues unabated, and the latest salvo in the war for your dirham comes from Five Guys, who on Monday opened their first outlet in the capital — their fourth in the UAE. The super-popular chain (the Dubai Mall outlet had a wait of at least 45 minutes when it opened last year) is at Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi. What makes Five Guys different? It’s completely customisable, and all of the 15 toppings are free, so you can pile them on as high as you like, or go very, very low-key (the founder, Jerry Murrell, told us he has his with just onions, and we salute his minimalism).

Bazxar now has a Dining Room

The final element of the “dining experience” in DIFC has opened with a string of yellow booths and a license. With its own open kitchen, the Dining Room at Bazxar is away from the market-style communal dining area the spot has become famous for. There’s a bar and lounge alongside, and a menu with the likes of pull-apart bread with Neal’s Yard cheddar and chicken skin butter; a foie gras “pb & j”; scallop ceviche with lime leaf, cilantro root and tiger’s milk; or wagyu beef roasted in a fierce, charcoal-burning Josper oven with house-made ponzu and marinated tomatoes. Dessert includes bitter chocolate souffle with sweet lemon creme Anglaise. Call 04-3551111.
