An American gastro pub at the H Hotel

Black Lion Dubai is opening at the hotel on Shaikh Zayed Road (formerly the Monarch) on July 18 and is giving 50 per cent off food for the first two weeks. Calling itself “the transatlantic cousin to Reform Social & Grill”, it will serve American classic dishes and is open all day, from late breakfast to lunch, post-work drinks and late night eats from the ‘Lock In’ menu (midnight-3am). Brazilian opening at Media One next month

If you’re a fan of South American food, mark August 1 in your diary: That’s when the street food-inspired Spirito Lounge & Kitchen opens at Media One Hotel with head chef Nilton Rodigo Ceccarelli in the kitchen. Dishes include pastel de carne, a pastry filled with spicy braised beef, smashed avocado and lime; coxinha (smoked chicken croquettes with romesco sauce) and churrasquinho boneless lamb rib skewer, fennel, apple and peanut slaw and variations on classic Brazilian drinks. The first Dubai Bake Festival has been announced, taking place from November 20-21 at Green Park, Dubai Investment Park. Expect live music, baking workshops and competitions. Smoking Doll does summer Yum Cha

The Abu Dhabi Asian culinary spot (at Nation Towers Galleria and Boutik Mall) is serving a yum cha-style menu from July 19-31. However, it’s not your classic afternoon serving of dumplings — this also includes sushi and is served at dinner. Dumplings include steamed and fried chicken, duck, spring vegetable and seafood, while other dishes are salt and pepper squid; salt and pepper crispy eggplant; tempura prawn and vegetables with dashi soy dressing; grilled teriyaki beef or chicken; and edamame served with sesame, butter and soy or Maldon salt and chilli flakes. Free-flowing jasmine tea, hot or iced goes alongside. From 5-9pm, dishes from Dh8.
