Tarun Tahiliani returns to Dubai with the autumn edition of SoPritti — Fashion, Glamour and Lifestyle event on Saturday, September 24, at Murooj Rotana Hotel.

One of India’s top designers, Tahiliani’s fans include stars such as Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.

Last year at SoPritti, he showcased his TT.DIY collection that comprised “separates in fun prints, colours and cuts — tunics, kaftans, dresses”, as he told tabloid!.

The collection he’s bringing this time is inspired by noted sculptor Mrinalini Mukherjee’s life size hemp and cast bronze sculptures, tabloid! has learnt. In the ensemble, Tahiliani combines jerseys and textures in chanderi, fringing and crochet using thick chenille yarns with graphic textures and shading to create a 3D feel to flat digital printing. Textured handloom fabrics are combined with contemporary silhouettes with cascades and cowl drapes on gilets, capes, concept saris and dresses to reflect the sculptor’s ideology in a tactile and fashionable form.

“I was blown away by the power of a vision, the technical prowess and singularity of purpose… The shapes, the drapes, the folds, the unexpected contours and textures immediately began to take shape in my head as a collection. Certainly as a point of departure, a tribute and a mark of respect, cast in simple elegant layered clothes for use in everyday life,” Tahiliani said in a press statement.

Other designers who will join Tahiliani include Anju Modi — who is currently riding high in the Indian fashion industry after her creations in Bollywood hits Bajirao Mastani and Goliyon Ki Rasleela-RamLeela; Rimple and Harpreet Narula who are working on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next film, Padmavati; Rina Dhaka; Shyamal & Bhumika and Ayesha Hashwani.
