Laughter makes for great exercise — and the UAE is ready for another bout. Russell Kane, the Briton with tickle spiel at this disposal, is coming to Dubai’s Madinat Theatre on November 9 and 10, as part of the DXBLaughs comedy series.

The lanky, once-brooding, now cackling gent has a restless manner on stage; his words punctuated by mime-like body language; it’s a very physical set.

The funny man — who won the top prize at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2010 — is bringing his latest routine to the city and ahead of his gig, he spoke to Gulf News tabloid! about what makes him laugh and why he doesn’t like people going to the washroom during a concert.

What can Dubai expect from your show?

A high energy burst of humour and improvisation.

What/Who is making you laugh these days?

My pug Colin always makes me laugh. By mouth, or by bum.

Do you follow other comics — if yes, who has your attention and why?

My tastes are so diverse; I love Tim Vine for one-liners, Ross Noble for improvisation [and] I love Laurel and Hardy, too.

How did you get into comedy?

Through the Stage Door. (Some actually dared me at work. Couldn’t believe it went well… the rest is history)

What’s your pet peeve at a concert?

People filming — or walking past the stage for the washrooms!

What’s next for you?

Manchester Piccadilly. I’m on a train while I’m typing this.
