Top choreographer Prabhu Deva — who has often been dubbed as the Michael Jackson of India due to his flexible dancing style — will showcase his iconic moves at a concert on April 13 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

“It’s the first time in my career that I am doing an exclusive dance concert. It will be energetic and colourful… I have always been a dancer” said Prabhu Deva in an interview with Gulf News tabloid!.

Deva, who revolutionised choreography with his complex and gravity-defying moves, claims that dancing is an art that has remained very close to him.

“But it isn’t easy to create a dance show and it’s different from choreographing for films… You need a lot of stamina and practice,” Deva added.

His upcoming gig, entitled Mathrubhumi Live With The Legends, will also feature singers such as Shankar Mahadevan, and a few other actors whose names will be revealed soon.

Deva, who will be directing Salman Khan in Dabangg 3, is also one of the few choreographers who had the distinction of sharing the stage with legendary actress Sridevi at an awards night in 2016, where they had a dance off. The actress died in Dubai last month due to accidental drowning.

“It was a very shocking news. I can’t believe it and everyone knows that she was amazing and an unbelievably good [person],” said Deva, shaking his head in disbelief.

But he doesn’t dwell on it for long, and lets his trademark silence communicate his grief.

It’s not just his concert that’s looking up. He will soon be seen playing a blood-thirsty antagonist in the silent thriller, Mercury.

“That film will also release on April 13 and this dance concert is also on April 13. It’s a wonderful coincidence,” said Deva.
