Yesterday, Google hosted a launch event in San Francisco to announce a few cool products. While all the headlines have been dominated by the new Pixel smartphone, here’s a quick guide to everything else that was announced.

Google Home

Have you heard of the Amazon Echo speakers and Alexa, its in-built assistant? Well Google did and here’s the Google Home. You can talk to it, have a conversation and sync your data straight to your phone. It can also play music and you can have one of them for approx. Dh500 when it starts shipping in November. Google Home also features Google Assistant.

Google Assistant

Google’s answer to Siri, the assistant uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to recognise everything from photos to phrases in 100 languages. Say goodbye to those lonely nights, because now you can always have someone to talk to.

The Pixel Phones

These are first devices to ship with Google Assistant. The cameras on these devices have ranked higher than any other smartphone camera on the market. The phones come in two sizes, five and 5.5-inches and are powered by the latest Snapdragon 821 processor. They are available in both 32GB and 128GB, but offer no expandable storage. Prices start from approx. Dh2,383 and should be available around the world next month. Click here for more on the Pixel Phones.

Daydream VR

The Daydream VR comes in a selection of coloured fabrics and is also glasses friendly. It’s packed with a wireless controller and ships with an exclusive Harry Potter virtual reality game at launch. Currently compatible with Pixel phones, you can get your hands on it next month at approx. Dh300.

Chromecast Ultra

The third rendition of the Chromecast is obviously faster and better than its predecessors. With extra processing speed, Chromecast now supports 4K content. Priced at approx. Dh250, the Ultra will be available next month as well.

Google Wi-Fi router

The Wi-Fi router announced last night seems to be the dark horse of the event. Users can add more of these slick-looking devices to form a mesh network that covers their entire house. You can buy them in a pack of three for approx. Dh1,100 or buy them individually for approx. Dh474, towards the end of this year.
