Be wary if you plan to travel along Shaikh Zayed Road tonight. The popular interchange on Hadiqa Road will be closed on Thursday at midnight.

The Roads and Transport (RTA) has announced that the exit of the bridge leading to Al Hadiqa Street and Al Meydan from Shaikh Zayed Road will remain closed until 5am on Sunday, July 24.

On its social media accounts, the RTA said: “The road closure is in support of the opening of the remaining lanes on the South Bridge on SZR towards Abu Dhabi.”

The authority also advised motorists driving to Al Hadiqa Street to use Umm Al Sheif Road as an alternative, near Interchange 3.

Drivers heading towards Al Meydan Road can use Al Manara Bridge exit on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Here are 5 things to know about the RTA road closure annouced for the weekend.

1. Where

The closure is from the exit of the bridge leading to Al Hadiqa street and Al Maydan road from Shaikh Zayed Road.

2. When

The closure will come to effect at midnight on July 21, Thursday and end at 5am on July 24, Sunday

3. Why

The closure is in support of the remaining lanes on the south bridge of Shaikh Zayed Road towards Abu Dhabi and to allow a smooth flow of traffic on this road

4. Al Hadiqa street

For Al Hadiqa street, use Umm Al Sheif as an alternative route

5. Al Meydan road

To go towards Al Meydan road, use the Al Manara bridge exit on Shaikh Zayed Road
