Professional egotist and modest boxing star Floyd Mayweather Jr. has just spent US $4,800,000 of his hard-earned cash on a new run-about.

While, for a fraction of the cost, he could have got to his local grocery store just as easily in a reasonably priced Ford Fiesta 1.6 Trend, Mr. Mayweather has opted for something with a jot more swagger. It seems that a sensible compact hatchback just doesn’t cut the mustard with professional sportsmen, so “Money” has gone out and bought himself a humble Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita.

Mr. Mayweather points out that there are only two in the world – sorry, Sir, there are three, look up the definition of “Trevita” – and that it is one of the world’s only “hypercars” – wrong again, there are several.

Indeed, the CCXR Trevita may have a unique – and incomprehensibly expensive – diamond coated carbon fibre composite finish and “three whites” name tag, but it still comes with the same 4.8 litre twin-supercharged V8 engine as found in the more economical CCX Edition… And while it looks jolly lovely, it looks pretty much the same as other Koenigseggs. Only seasoned experts will spot the differences.

We jest; Mr. Mayweather has got himself a fine – if a little ostentatious – car. A car that can reach 100kp/h in 2.9 seconds, 200kp/h in 8.8 seconds and can reach a top speed of 400kp/h is not to sneezed at. But could he have done better? Guides looks at four alternative hypercars that could of made Mr. Mayweather stand out in different ways.

Lamborghini Veneno

We begin our attack on the Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita with one of the most aggressively-styled cars ever created: Lamboghini’s Veneno. It’s as if Mad Max’s V8 Interceptor and the Batmobile had a lovechild.

The Veneno was built to celebrate Lambo’s 50th birthday and is – or was – at $4,500,000 the world’s most expensive production car. It shares the same underpinnings as the Aventador. The 2014 Roadster version was actually unveiled to the world here in the UAE, on an aircraft carrier in Abu Dhabi’s Mina Port.

It comes with a gentlemen’s 6.5 litre V12 engine with electronic variable valve control, boots out 740hp at 8,400 RPM, 507 lbft of torque and can reach a top speed of 355kp/h. 0-100kp/h is dispensed with in 2.9 seconds.

For flashy looks and a jaw-dropping legacy, Mr. Mayweather would have been better off with a Veneno. It stands out from the Lambo range more so than the CCXR Trevtia does in Koenigsegg’s range.

W Motors Lykan Hypersport

Did you know that the Lykan Hypersport is the first supercar – or hypercar in this case – to be produced in the Middle East? Well it is. It is a Lebanese project started in 2012, and at present is the third most expensive car in the world. It has featured in computer games and films, not least the latest installment of Fast and Furious.

Unlike most hypercars, where performance and mechanical specifications raise the price into mind-boggling figures, the Lykan’s high price is actually dictated more by the interior options and opulent extras such as diamond encrusted headlamps.

It has a 3.7 litre straight-6 engine which blows Mr. Mayweather’s Trevita into the bushes by getting to 100kp/h from nothing in 2.8 seconds. Abu Dhabi Police have one for a reason.

For decadent swagger, Mr. Mayweather would have stood out more with one of these.

Pagani Zonda Revolucion

A Mercedes-AMG 6 litre V12 engine powers Pagani’s “last” Zonda. The Revolucion is intended to be the last of the breed – although Pagani have said this before. Featuring a carbon-titanium monocoque, a magnesium six-speed transversal and sequential gearbox, drag reduction system for improved straight-line aerodynamics, and 12 different traction control settings, it is unlikely that Mr. Mayweather read this far down the specs page.

The Revolucian boasts all the typical Zonda-ish looks, with its Andorian wing mirrors and mental rear spoiler making it look more like a child’s dinky-toy rather than an oligarch’s play thing.

At a feather-weight 1,070kg, it is the lightest car on our list. The engine punches out a steely 800hp and 0-100kp/h is dealt with in an eye-watering 2.6 seconds.

Chew on that, Mr. Mayweather. If you wanted to be fastest away from the lights you should have got one of these.

Maybach Exelero

It has become clear that Mr. Mayweather may very well have purchased the most expensive, fastest, and most powerful production car in the world after all. But Guides isn’t out yet. We have an ace up our sleeve, and we’re not playing nice: the Maybach Exelero.

Daimler-owned Maybach built this one-off leviathan hypercar in 2004 and today it is worth – unofficially at least – US $8,000,000. The car has been used on screen several times, with Jay Z famously using it in one of his music videos – “The Lost One”, we’re told.

The Exelero is a four-seater tourer which owes its design to the classic cruisers of the 1930s. It was built to test a range of developments for future Maybachs, but has become something of a sought-after collectable.

Oozing class and much finery, this beast tips the scales at a hefty 2,660kg. Its girthsome carriage aside, its 5.9 litre twin-turbo V12 power-unit still churns out 700hp and can reach a top speed of 351kp/h. 0-100kp/h is achieved in 4.4 seconds; all done in the most upmarket of interiors.

It may not be a two-seater sports car, but it is still a hypercar. For all-out swagger and unnecessary expense, Mr. Mayweather should have bought this. Or was it too expensive for him?
