We headed straight for the buffet as soon as we arrived at Fairways at Westin Abu Dhabi: our number one priority was ending the fast and getting some food into our systems.

Still, the beautiful decorations were hard to ignore, making us stop to click a few pictures before we dived in. The restaurant had a truly festive feel and gave off a very ‘zen’ vibe.

We broke our fast with dates, which were elaborately displayed at the centre of the buffet with an assortment of nuts and dried fruits. Soon after, we proceeded to the salad section.

The number of salad options available delighted us, but what really struck a note was the colourful tuna salad — bell peppers, tomatoes, black olives, potato wedges, and juicy tuna all infused together to create the perfect dish.

The highlight when it came to the main course was the kung pao chicken at the Asian section. It consisted of some exquisitely cooked crispy chicken, with the perfect sauce — not too thick and not too watery — with a hint of sweetness and spice. The chicken was complemented by egg noodles, thin wisps of dough boiled to perfection.

We enjoyed the main course so much that we almost forgot to leave room for dessert. After a while though, we managed to squeeze that in, and would recommend the Gianduja pot de creme, a dessert that very closely resembled chocolate mousse with its rich, creamy, and chocolatey taste. Who was counting calories after that? We shamelessly admit that we went back for seconds, and thirds. The Umm Ali deserves an honourable mention, too.

The service at Fairways was impeccable. We were more than well taken care of, with a waiter checking up on us not once, but twice, to make sure that we were enjoying our meal.

Needless to stay, we did not stay for the suhour, which is held both indoors and outdoors in an exquisite elaborately lit tent with an a la carte menu and a selection of shisha.

Our final verdict? The Fairways iftar is definitely worth a visit or two. Quick service, good food, friendly staff, and a warm and cosy overall atmosphere make for a perfect outing with the family, or even a night out with friends.
