There's no need to spend your precious time planning your foodie week or looking through endless online menus, because every Sunday, the Guides team is going to give you the greatest ideas on where and what you should eat. With our handy guide, you won't have to wonder about where to go for a bite.

1. Jaan at the Penthouse

Jaan is a modern and progressive Indian dining concept located in the penthouse floor of the Sofitel Downtown Dubai. Jaan is the brainchild of Chef Farrokh Khambata a successful restauranteur from India. Jaan is his first restaurant venture in Dubai after running 5 incredibly successful eateries in India. The second we walked in, we absolutely loved the décor and the floor to ceiling windows that showed amazing views of the spectacular city. We definitely recommend heading there during sunset, so that you can experience the sweeping sights of Dubai in both light and dark. We love that this Indian restaurant has a very imaginative raw bar, with our favourite being the Jhaal Muri Ceviche, made with yellowtail amberjack, Indian mangosteen and topped with the Indian street bite jhaal muri. Have you ever had prawns wrapped in beef bacon? Well I never did until I tried them at Jaan. They’ve successfully added another regular craving to my long list of food yearnings. The stand out hero main course dishes were the Butter Scrambled Paneer and the fall off the bone tender Black Angus Chuck Ribs. The food is truly flavourful and is very accommodating to those who aren’t fans of Indian cuisine. Make sure you leave some room for dessert, because the saffron infused panna cotta was nothing like we’ve ever tasted before. Jaan at the Penthouse now has lifelong fans.

We got to try a selection of the perfectly put together set menu, which features delicacies such as crab dumplings with onion and sweet potato; definitely a favourite, as well as a sweet papaya salad for a refreshing and light start to your meal. Another sure-fire winner was the Gaeng Panang Goong, a red prawn curry with lychee, kaffir lime leaves, coconut meat and Thai basil, which was unbelievably fragrant and one dish we couldn’t stop eating. The Nuea Phad Phed, a wok fried beef in a red curry paste with long beans, Thai eggplant, coconut shoots and sweet basil, went perfectly with the sticky rice and had the perfect blend of sweet and spice.
