What is it?

The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2016, also known as the Dubai Marathon, is the 16th edition of the renowned event. Under the patronage of Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. the race has become better and bigger each year. This year, the event takes place on January 22.

Featuring three distances, the event attracts runners of all levels. The marathon, which is 42.195 km long, is the main competition event (18 years or older) followed by a 10km road race (15 years or older). The 4km run is considered a fun run and is open to all ages.



Run for a reason

The run incorporates fund raising for various charities and causes such as the 'Seeing is Believing' campaign, in association with The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), for avoidable blindness as well as Al Jalila Foundation.

Prize Money

The total prize money of the race is commensurate with the amazing athletic talent seen on the turf going up to more than US$930,000 (approx. Dh3,415,471).

The winner of the marathon, with men and women in separate categories, will recieve US$200,000 (approx. Dh734,510) along with a bonus of US$100,000 (approx. Dh367,255) if the runner breaks a record.



The winner of the 10km road race will take home US$10,000 (approx. Dh36,725).

There are  prizes for nine runners-up for the marathon and two runners-up for the 10km road race. There are separate prizes for UAE Nationals who come in the first three ranks of the marathon and the 10km race. See more details here.

Registration for the fun run (4km) and the road race (10km) is still open at the race pack collection point till 5pm on January 21.

Collection point

Collection of run numbers and race packs is to be done at Turf Suite, Floor 4, The Meydan Hotel and the dates for collection are January 18-21 from 10am onwards. For daily timings please check here. 



Race venue and timings

The marathon and 10km start is on the Umm Suqeim road at the Madinat Jumeirah end, in the shadow of the iconic Burj Al Arab. The fun run will start on Al Wasl road, adjacent to Al Jalila Foundation. All finish points will be at the Dubai Police Academy end of  the Umm Suqeim road.

The marathon starts at 6.30am followed by the 10km road race at 9am and the 4km fun run at 11am.

If you intend to run or watch, it is advisable to plan your travel in advance and reach atleast 60 minutes prior to the start times mentioned.



Driving instructions

Do not attempt to park in the Jumeirah Beach Road, Al Sufouh road, Madinat Jumeirah or Police Academy area as extensive road closures will be in place. The best thing to do would be to park in the nearby Al Wasl road away from the start points or the Mall of Emirates/Al Barsha area, and then walk to the race venue.
