Our dream team is made up of these 11 top players, each of them the best in their position and category. We have four strikers or forward players, three on defense, three midfielders and one goalkeeper. If Guides owned a team, this would be it. We'd be the Euro 2016 champions.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal

Age 31 Club Real Madrid

He is a legend in world football history and is a star name in Euro 2016. He has been Portugal team captain since 2008 and is an all-time top scorer for his country at 56 goals from 156 matches.

2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sweden

Age 34 Club Paris Saint Germaine (PSG)

Zlatan has won nine league titles in his last 10 seasons of club football. His goals are legendary and his bicycle kick goal against England in 2013 earned him the FIFA Puskas Award for Goal of the Year.

Euro 2016 marks his retirement from international football. He is PSG’s all-time top scorer with 152 goals in 178 appearances, despite the fact that he joined them in 2012.

3. Robert Lewandowski, Poland

Age 27 Club Bayern Munich

Lewandowski is called the ultimate modern striker. September 22, 2015 is the day Robert Lewandowski created history by scoring five goals in nine minutes against WolfsBurg. This feat is unprecedented in professional football history. This was the fastest hat trick and the most goals scored by a substitute in Bundesliga.

4. Paul Pogba, France

Age 23 Club Juventus

Having made his France debut in 2013, Pogba is a leading player for the host nation. He is an all-round midfielder with a very strong defensive angle, and also shoots the odd goal. Pogba was recognised by FIFA as the Best Young Player of the tournament at the 2014 World Cup.

5. Thomas Mueller, Germany

Age 26 Club Bayern Munich

Mueller is impossible to categorise as he is not just a forward, winger or midfielder. As far as his game goes, his goal scoring stats speak for themselves. For Germany’s qualifying round, he was top scorer with nine goals in nine appearances. He won the Golden Boot and Best Player awards by FIFA based on his performance in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He scored five goals and had three assists in the game. He was 20 at the time.

6. Gareth Bale, Wales

Age 26 Club Real Madrid

His performance led Wales to their first major finals since 1958. Known by his distinctive top knot hairstyle, Bale is a complete package in terms of strength, height, talent and team work.  He is the most expensive transfer football player in the world with a transfer fee of 86 million Euros (approximately Dh358 million) paid by Real Madrid to Tottenham.

7. Manuel Neuer, Germany

Age 30 Club Bayern Munich

Considered by many as one of the best goalkeepers in the game, Neuer has made quite a few spectacular saves. His career highlight however, was that he kept a clean sheet by preventing all goals in the World Cup final against Argentina in 2014.

8. David Alaba, Austria

Age 23 Club Bayern Munich

For Austria Alaba is positioned at the midfield centre taking advantage of his long range shooting and athleticism. According to Josep “Pep” Guardiola, manager of Bayern Munich, Alaba is set to become one of Bayern’s best players in a few years.

9. Sergio Busquets, Spain

Age 27 Club Barcelona

His strength lies in analysis of the game and as a midfielder, Busquets dictates the attacking moves of his team. He has won three Champions League titles, 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012.

10. Sergio Ramos, Spain

Age 30 Club Real Madrid

Sergio Ramos has been instrumental in gaining victories both for Spain and Real Madrid, but he does seem to have a discipline problem on the field and has been sent off with 21 red cards in his career, the last one being in April. Apart from his infamous red card count, he is also Spain’s all-time second-most capped player with 134 international appearances after Iker Cassilas who had 167 appearances.

11. Gerard Pique, Spain

Age 29 Club FC Barcelona

Pique is easily one of the best central defenders in world football, quickly moving to score goals on getting the chance, taking both Spain and his club towards accolades. He is the third highest goal scoring player in Barcelona with 32 goals from 350 appearances. He is married to Colombian pop singer, songwriter and performer, Shakira, and has two sons with her.
