The people at Publique have clearly been watching cheesy sci-fi movies. Beginning September 27, the Madinat Jumeirah venue is advertising Wednesdays over at the winter sports-themed bar are being transformed into a ‘Hot tub time machine’, with sticky hits from the Eighties and Nineties. Bistro Bagatelle
Brush up your high-school French and break out a beret from 8pm onwards on Tuesday September 26, as lounge singer Anna channels Edith Piaf over at Bistro Bagatelle for a special edition of Le Mardi C’est Permis, a weekly night named after a famous block of TV programming on the M6. There’s typical Parisian corner cafe food from Chef Timothy Newton to manger with it, such as Tartare de Boeuf, Salad Landaise, Loup de Mer and Moelleux à l’ananas (that’s steak tartare, fatty duck salad, seabass and pineapple cake in plain English — now you know why menus are written in French!)
Ritz-Carlton DIFC
Jean Claude van Damme can’t make it unfortunately, but there’ll be mussels and hops at the roaring 20s-inspired jazz evenings each Sunday at the Ritz-Carlton DIFC, when Desert Jazz takes to the stage to recreate the golden era of 1920s Brussels. But what’s jazz got to do with Belgium, you ask? Adolphe Sax, who gave his name to an instrument favoured by musical blowhards, hailed from Dinant, in the country’s south west.
