In Dubai
Where is it?
Pier 7 in Dubai Marina offering the divers a height of 28 metres to jump into the waters of the Marina below. A dining destination that offers over seven cuisines with European-inspired dining setting and picturesque view of the Arabian Gulf.
Who is competing?
After all the stops made along the way, 22 of the world’s best cliff divers will take the thrilling jump into the seawater of the Arabian Gulf. According to the current points tally, Garry Hunt of Great Britain and Rhiannan Iffland of Australia stand first in men’s and women’s rankings respectively.
How are they scored?
The whole methodology is complicated but what we do understand is that divers are judged on the basis of degree of difficulty of the jump, number of summersaults mid-jump, type of take-off. Type of entry (into the water), number of twists, positions during twists and summersaults and many other criteria. You can go on the official website and see different kinds of jumps and the science behind executing these free-falls.
Who can watch?
Everyone, and it’s for free. You can watch the thrill unfold from the promenades outside Dubai Marina Mall towards the Address Hotel or the opposite side of the water in front of the InterContinental Hotel. Another thing to do is plan your Friday dinner with family and friends at one of Pier 7’s restaurants. You can also watch from the Address Hotel, Silverene tower, Dubai Marina, Bay central (across the marina) or Al Gharbi street bridge.
What do you get?
Apart from the fact that you get to watch these crazy jumps for free? You can take advantage of the spectator area events which include a virtual reality dive, souvenir diving photos and games.
Note: You can use the restrooms in Dubai Marina Mall during the event.
How to get there?
We would strongly recommend taking the metro (to stop at Jumeirah Lakes Towers) or the tram (to stop at Dubai Marina Mall). This involves a two to 15 minute walk depending on where you get off. You can also drive or take a taxi to nearby venue such as Dubai Marina Mall, Address Hotel, Silverene Tower or Alec LLC building in Marina. All of these are walking distance from the venue. If you are dining at the Pier 7, you are sorted as there’s valet parking.
