In June this year, DC Entertainment announced that September 17 2016 will be Batman Day.

You would have noticed several of your superhero-crazed friends strolling around in their Batman T-shirts – Nino Jose Heredia, one of our designers here at Gulf News has his on right now – while your social media feeds were chock-full of Batman-related posts.

If you’re still in the dark about Batman Day, here’s what you need to know, and what went down.

Batman Day is now in its third year and was first introduced to honour the character’s 75th anniversary. Batman was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, and first appeared in Detective Comics #27 in May 1939.

Prior to Batman Day, Justice League director Zack Snyder, got fans hyped up by sharing an image of Ben Affleck’s Batman in a new Tactical Batsuit alongside the Batmobile.

Star Wars’ Mark Hamill, who voices the iconic Batman villain Joker, shared a GIF on twitter wishing Kevin Conroy. Conroy, is best known for his voice role as Batman throughout the 90’s television series Batman: The Animated Series, multiple DC Animated movies and the recent Batman Arkham series of video games.

Zack Snyder also tweeted a first look at J.K. Simmons as James Gordon, the police commissioner of the fictional, crime-ridden Gotham City.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. revealed the new poster for highly-anticipated The Lego Batman Movie scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2017.

Last week, DC Comics asked their fans to curate the perfect Batman Day playlist. The fans responded and over 70 songs were added to DC’s Spotify Profile. Our personal favourites: Back in Black by AC/DC, The Pretender by the Foo Fighters, and Fear of the Dark by Iron Maiden.

You can check out the entire list here.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn got involved too, despite his…other affiliations.

Lastly, DC Comics have prepared a downloadable Batman Day activity kit that features colouring pages, a word scramble, a super hero quiz and even a cut-out mask.

You can download it here.

It’s still not too late to celebrate Batman day here in the UAE.

Comic store Geek Nation have a special sale running until the end of the month. Shoppers get a free ¼-scale action figure on every purchase of a Hot Toys action figure. While offers include a free t-shirt when you buy two.
