With UAE automobile dealerships seeing lacklustre business so far this year, Ramadan and the summer months could be the perfect time to pick up a new car at a bargain price, say experts.

The industry has had  the worst year since 2009, as Gulf News reported last month, which is building up unsold inventory that will force dealerships to do what it takes to shift stock. This is good news for prospective car buyers as five-year warranties, free insurance and other incentives are all sitting on the table.

It’s not going to be grim forever for the auto sector. Bruce Robertson, Regional Managing Director at Jaguar Land Rover, told Gulf News recently there is no reason for the industry to panic. “Yes, there will be some concerns over the extent of the deals on offer... but I don’t think this represents the new norm,” he said. “I lived through this in the UK during 2009 — it’s just a simple situation of supply and demand.

“There are many ways manufacturers can help resolve this — they could adjust production or change the model mix to balance out the situation. At the end of the day, everyone wants profitability for their dealerships.”

Things are likely to pick up for dealers is the consensus, but before they do consumers are set to benefit from some top offers.  “We have been reviewing our prices since the beginning of this year,” says Axel Dreyer, President of Hyundai UAE. “Starting with the Dubai Shopping Festival, the company has continuously provided special offers and price reductions to its customers.

“This Ramadan we have a great promotion, which, in addition to the already special prices, will also give UAE customers additional value in the form of finance solutions and service contracts. Hyundai UAE is also looking forward to launching its much-anticipated range of 2017 models during the month.”
