Show director Nick Craig Waller  gives us the low-down on this week’s Dubai International Motor Show (DIMS), which runs until Saturday at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

What can fans expect from the 2015 edition?

The biennial DIMS will be the largest global automotive event in the Middle East and North Africa… 25 per cent bigger than 2013, a total of 15 halls will cover 85,000 sq. m and have the latest in car designs, driving technology, tuning tips and custom gear. Now in its 13th edition, the show has established itself as the region’s most influential automotive event, bringing together manufacturers, distributors, industry specialists and key buyers from around the world.

[For 2015] the show will welcome in excess of 100,000 visitors from more than 37 countries to experience global launches, hundreds of regional reveals and ten concept cars being presented by leading automotive companies and brands.
The show will further feature a jaw-dropping collection of the world’s latest supercars, motorbike and automotive manufacturers as well as specialist zones for tuning and customisation.

Can you reveal any launch highlights?
There’s the new Boulevard of Dreams, which will display the world’s hottest supercars featuring names like Panoz, Alvis, David Brown and the UAE Roadster. The motoring living section will also take visitors into the world of luxury lifestyle where they can experience premium automotive-themed merchandise, including furniture and jewellery.

Any surprises in store?
Surprises will include a series of new marques and models that will be unveiled for the first time in the region. Celebrity guests will also be in attendance.

What about new technology and focus areas?

DIMS will provide a glimpse into the future of the automobile with a number of high-tech concepts from the world’s leading automakers incorporating cutting-edge technologies.

This is supported by a recent independent report from Business Insider UK that claims that by 2020, 75 per cent of cars sold globally will be internet compatible. The connected car market is expected to grow ten times faster than the overall car market in the next five years. Visitors will experience this new auto world through concepts.

How important is DIMS to the industry?

This region is regarded as one of the largest growth markets in the automotive industry and this is reflected in the significant growth and success of the show. With the majority of major manufacturers already committed to the DIMS 2015, the show is now recognised as one of the world’s most important automotive events.
