Know your Psy from your Girls Generation? Or your kimchi from your bulgogi? Then prepare yourself for the biggest of all Korean fixes in the UAE capital next week.

Tickets to Korea’s first cultural convention in the Middle East, KCON 2016, are selling fast as thousands of K-pop fans get ready to see BTS, TAEYEON (Girls’ Generation), KYUHYUN (Super Junior), Double S 301, MONSTA X, and SPICA.

New to the line-up is Ailee, dubbed the Korean Beyoncé, who has now been confirmed to wow UAE fans at the du Arena in Abu Dhabi on March 25.

With the first batch of tickets selling out fast, CJ E&M — one of Asia’s leading media and content companies — announced that the second round of tickets are now available at local Virgin Megastores and online at Ticketmaster, with prices starting at Dh350 for gold tickets.

KCON 2016 Abu Dhabi will open at 2pm with a host of activities which best represent Korean culture, including K-beauty and K-food.

This will be the first convention of its kind in the Middle East, although KCON has travelled to major cities in the US and Japan since it launched in 2012.

The Middle East has been identified as an emerging market for Hallyu, or the so-called Korean wave, and Korean entertainment industry insiders believe the response to the event will be positive given the phenomenal growth of popularity for K-pop idols in recent years.

Ahn Suk Joon, CJ E&M Music Division President said: “We hope to see KCON 2016 Abu Dhabi serve as a catalyst to spread Korean culture in the Middle East, where the whole world is paying close attention these days for its vast business opportunities.”
