What makes you proud to be South African?

South Africa is a world in one. We have the see, mountains with beautiful landscapes, wild reserves that are host to some of the world’s magnificent animals. The temperature is neither extremely cold nor hot. Our cities and infrastructure compare with cities of the world.

What is unique about South Africa?

It is the furthest southern tip of the world. It borders the two biggest oceans of the world, the Atlantic and the Indian. There eleven official languages spoken at national level.

What is the South African cultural identity?

South Africa has diverse cultures and what stands out is that all these cultures are expressed with utmost freedom; the popular cliché is that we are united in our diversity.

What is your hometown like?

My hometown is Pretoria, the administrative capital of the country. Just over two million people live in and around the town. It is characterised by massive growth of the Jacaranda tree, the biggest national zoological garden and flower garden in the country.

Pretoria is also home to the seat of power, the Union Buildings, and former President Nelson Mandela’s biggest statues. It also boasts a Freedom Park with themes that encapsulate the history of our struggle against apartheid.

What’s your favourite South African food, and why?

Boerewors, pap (porridge), samp and snoek fish. This is South African basic food that we grow up eating, until such time one can afford delicacies.

What sights or experiences in your country are not to be missed?

The secured animal parks where wild animals roam freely. The Garden Route from Eastern Cape to Cape Town. Table Mountain in Cape Town. Night life in the designated areas of the different cities. Life in the townships. Beach sites during summer. Wine estates, particularly in the Cape.
