If you fancy yourself a hopeless romantic and a lover of the unusual, you might want to check out Prelude to a Kiss, the quirky play that was made famous by the 1992 film by the same name.

Directed by Brent Jenkins, the play lands at Ductac’s Kilachand Theatre on April 30 and runs until May 2. It comes courtesy of the Dubai-based community theatre group, Backstage.

“It has a message about who we love and why,” said Jenkins in a press release. “It also speaks to there being a perfect person for every one and how no one else will suffice once you have found that special someone. I honestly believe that there aren’t very many plays with this type of twist and its repercussions. Maybe I just really love twists.”

Prelude to a Kiss follows the tale of a young married couple, Peter and Rita, whose love is tested by a magical occurrence: Rita’s soul is switched with that of an old man’s once he kisses her. The story plays with elements of fantasy and takes ‘for better or worse’ to a new extreme.

*Tickets are Dh100 through ductac.org. Play begins at 7.30pm nightly, except on May 2, when it begins at 2.30pm.
