Lovers of the ultra-popular musical Rent are in for a treat. Giacomo Puccini’s La Boheme, the most-performed opera in Met history and the inspiration behind the ’90s musical, is coming to Meydan IMAX Theatre on Sunday.

The four-act show premiered in Italy in 1896. The performance is part of the ongoing Live at the Metropolitan Opera season from New York, which films operas performed there and streams them to cinemas worldwide.

In this tale of love, poverty, friendship and mortality, a mix of struggling artists experience 19th century Paris together. Italian tenor Vittorio Grigolo plays the lead role of Rodolfo, the poet. He stars opposite Romanian soprano Anita Hartig who plays his sickly lover, Mimi. Susanna Phillips plays bold singer Musetta while Massimo Cavalletti plays painter Marcello. The performance is to be led by conductor Stefano Ranzani.

But that’s not all this summer. Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte is planned for May 18 and Rossini’s La Cenerentola is slated for a June 8 show at Meydan Theatre.
