It’s going to be Ali Mustafa’s festival this ADFF. The Emirati director is not only opening the annual festival with From A to B — the first time a UAE director has received such an honour — his short music film, Rise, will also premiere in the Emirates Film Competition’s Short Narrative category.

Starring Iraqi-Canadian hip hop artist Yassin Al Salman, popular known as The Narcycist, the 15-minute fiction film is set in 2020 in a city run by a corporation called The Medium. Al Salman plays Jamal Al Nargisee, who’s having an existential crisis, trapped between his imagination and his nightmare.

Also written by Al Salman, the film marks his reunion with Mustafa following the landmark 2009 film City of Life.

Rise will screen on October 24 at 6pm at Vox 3, and on October 27 at 3.15pm at Vox 3. For tickets go to adff.ae.
