It spooked the pants off UAE cinema goers and now it’s come back to haunt you. Djinn, the Emirati horror film set in the UAE and directed by genre master Tobe Hooper, is coming to Video on Demand.

Etisalat has announced the film will make its television premiere this Eid via its e-life service on July 29 and will be available until August 30.

“I remember going to see the film when it was released in UAE cinemas and felt immensely proud that this was not only a UAE production but also filmed in our country. We know our UAE e-life customers will feel the same pride we do about Djinn and I hope they enjoy this thrilling film as much as I did,” said e-life CEO Humaid Rashid Saho.

Djinn follows an Emirati couple who move back from the US to their hometown in Ras Al Khaimah only to discover that their new home is filled with supernatural activities.

The film made more than Dh1 million on its opening weekend last year, said producer Image Nation.

Djinn has been one of our most exciting productions and being a horror film, it was something completely new for us and the UAE film industry,” said its chairman Mohammad Al Mubarak.

“The film was a great theatrical release and we’re so pleased the film will be opened up to new audiences in the region who can enjoy one of our home-grown projects through a range of platforms.”

Following its TV premiere, Djinn will be available on Etihad in-flight entertainment starting September, then on Emirates starting October.
