The ability to play two diametrically opposite roles does not come easy.

One character is that of a cinema hall usher, the other is a star.

Tamil actor Siddharth takes on the challenge in his upcoming Tamil film, Enakkul Oruvan (Someone Within Me).

This is a remake of the sleeper Kannada hit, Lucia, directed by Pawan Kumar. A critically acclaimed film, Lucia won the Karnataka state award for Best Music, three Filmfare awards and the Audience Choice Award at the London Indian Film Festival in 2013.

Prasad Ramar, who co-directed Karthik Subburaj’s Pizza, said, “The story is the same as in the original, but the treatment is different to suit the Tamil audience.”

Siddharth interacted with cinema ushers from small towns to understand their mannerisms and how they talked.

Kannada actress Deepa Sannidhi is making her debut in Tamil cinema as Siddharth’s lover in this emotional psychological thriller.

She also enacts two roles: one as a middle-class girl and the other of an aspiring actress.

Enakkul Oruvan was shot in Chennai. Santosh Narayanan has scored music. Siddharth has sung the number Prabalamagavey. Gopi Amarnath is the cinematographer. The title for this film is borrowed from the 1984 Kamal Haasan film with permission from late filmmaker K. Balachander’s Kavithalayaa Productions.

Enakkul Oruvan is produced by C.V. Kumar, the man with the Midas touch, whose winning streak began with Tamil film Pizza.

Enakkul Oruvan is a test not only for the production house and director, but for Siddharth, who has of late been experimenting with different roles in an effort to bust his chocolate boy image.

It certainly has been an interesting journey for the actor who won hearts as Munna in Shankar’s Boys, and made people sit up and notice him in Rang De Basanti, to emerge as a sought-after performer post Jigarthanda and Kaaviya Thalaivan.

Enakkul Oruvan releases in the UAE on March 5.
