Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is currently facing a ban by press photographers in Mumbai because he allegedly refused to pose for them at the spot they desired during a film promotion. But the Dabangg star, 48, seemed to be at his obliging best during a photoshoot for UAE clothing brand Splash. And the pictures speak a thousand words.

“My association with any brand relies on trust and a good personal connection which I have enjoyed with Splash, so for me to continue with them is just an extension of how I feel,” said Khan in an exclusive e-mail interview.

Fondly called ‘bhai’ (brother) by his peers, Khan remains one of Bollywood’s most bankable and beloved stars. He has acted in more than 80 Hindi films, including blockbusters such as Bodyguard and Ek Tha Tiger.

Asked if he embarks on a special diet regime before a photo shoot, he said: “I generally try and lead a healthy lifestyle and I like to stay fit which translates in my photo shoots. I don’t stress too much about this and try and be as natural as possible. The rest is taken care of the stylists and photographers,” he said.

Bollywood’s controversy child wasn’t always this disciplined. In September 2002, Khan’s Toyota Land Cruiser rammed into a bakery in Mumbai and ran over five people sleeping on the streets. One man was killed and three were seriously injured. The actor is on a trial now on charges of culpable homicide for that hit-and-run incident. But it’s business as usual for the star as he goes about honouring his film and brand commitments.

So, what’s his definition of style? “Clothes that make me feel good is what I prefer, my approach is to keep it simple and comfortable.”

Surprisingly, the actor with an indefatigable macho image prefers to keep a hands-off approach while shooting for ad campaigns. “I prefer not to interfere too much in the process but, of course, comfort is important and I know what suits me. So, I stick to that,” said Khan.
