Arab singing sensations will welcome the round-the-world Volvo Ocean Race (VOR) with a concert when it stops over in Abu Dhabi for three weeks. Called Jalsah Live!, the performance, to be set in a traditional ‘majlis’ style gathering, will feature Lebanese singer Myriam Fares and Yemeni star Fouad Abdul Wahid.

The duo will perform at the Skyline Stage at the purpose-built Destination Village with the Abu Dhabi Corniche as the backdrop. The village will open to the public from December 12 to January 3, before the race fleet departs for its next leg to China.

“I’m looking forward to meeting all my fans and sharing the best moments with them in this one-of-a-kind evening,” Fares said in a statement.

Organisers earlier announced the BBC Worldwide’s Blue Planet in Concert show that will open the three-week stopover celebrations. Featuring high definition footage from the BBC series The Blue Planet with music by Oscar-nominated composer George Fenton and a 78-piece orchestra, the 90-minute evening performance will be projected on a 10-metre wide screen floating in the sea off the Corniche. Two performances will be held on December 12 and 15.

Tickets for the events, to be purchased separately, range between Dh300 and Dh600. For more information go to volvooceanraceabudhabi.com
