It’s no secret the Kardashian family loves fashion. They have a line of women’s clothing called Kardashian Kollection, Dash boutiques in Los Angeles, Miami and New York, a make-up range and now a clothing line at Babies R Us stores called Kardashian Kids. The range lands in UAE stores this week.

If you have a baby boy, though, you’re out of luck. The line is just for baby girls up to 24 months, although the range this month expanded to toddlers in the United States.

“I think girls’ [clothing] was easier for me to wrap my head around,” said Kourtney. She said she’s “obsessed with boys’ clothes” but found “it was easier to just start with girls.”

She hopes to incorporate boys’ clothing into the line in the future.

“I would love to,” Kourtney, 34, said, adding that she started shopping for her son Mason, now four, when she was pregnant with him. She also has a daughter, Penelope, who is almost two, and is expecting her third child. Kim is mother to 15-month-old North.

“It was a natural progression for us,” said sister Khloe during a separate interview with tabloid!. “We started the design process over a year ago, before Kim even had North, and it was something that we really wanted to do. Baby clothes are so easy to design because everything is so cute when you shrink it down to that size.”

Like their main collection, the three Kardashian sisters worked together on the range. “You don’t have to have kids to be passionate about it. I didn’t realise how passionate I would be in designing it. You get sucked into designing these tiny little skirts and shoes and onesies. Everything is so sweet and cute.”

Kourtney says she, Kim and Khloe, each bring their own sense of style to the kids’ lines, with Khloe partial to leopard print, Kourtney loving butterfly motifs and Kim a fan of neutral colours. A leopard-print long-sleeved onesie is Dh109, while a butterfly dress is Dh129.

Animal print is also an integral part of the grown-up women’s line (as are body-conscious dresses and plenty of satin). How was that design ethos incorporated into the kids range? “Who doesn’t love animal print?” said Khloe. “And leopard-print on a baby? That’s just too cute. We don’t have body-con dresses for the baby, though. We know how to pull it back.

“I think we definitely have a lot of fun with the baby stuff. [It’s what] we would love to wear if we were kids, I would say.”

While Penelope is too little to have a say in what she wears, Kourtney said she “picks her battles” when it comes to dressing her son, who likes to pick out his own clothes and “surprise everyone and then come out and show us his outfit so it’s really cute.”

But “if there’s a special occasion and I really want him to wear a suit on Christmas Eve for this or that, then he’s so far been good about still wearing what I want.”

She would rather shop for her kids than herself. “It’s just so much more fun and there’s so much out there, but I’m really picky,” she said, adding that she loves to put outfits together for them.

“I’m always surprised how they balance everything,” says Khloe of her working-mum siblings. “They are really great at balancing the work they do, but we also take our turns. That’s why I was in Dubai without them. That’s where I come in and get to do the travelling. We definitely help each other out, which I think is the blessing of working with your family.”
