Empty Chair, the band from Jordan, has emerged as the fan favourite in the Pepsi Band Slam competition organised by Dubai Music Week.

The band played hard to win the coveted spot of performing on the final night of Dubai Music Week on Sunday, beating J-Fam, Reset String, Nikotin, Adonis and Run Junction to reach the finish line.

They will take centre stage at the free-entry Arabic Night on the closing night of the six-day event.

“The competition was fierce all week and each of the bands held a top three position at one point during the week,” said Kurt Frenier, Senior Marketing Director, PepsiCo Middle East & Africa region.

“We are proud to provide these talented musicians with the opportunity to reach a broader audience,” he added.

The Pepsi Arabic Night will be an evening of celebrating Arab talent and culture. X Factor Arabia 2013 winner Mohammad Riffi and finalists Ibrahim Abd Elatheem, and Adham Naboulsi are the star attractions of the night.

Wrapping up the evening will be Arab Idol’s Carmen Soliman (2012 winner), Dounia Batma and Youssef Arafat.

“The entire night will be memorable, but the special moment will be when the evening’s performers come together with Quincy Jones to perform ‘Tomorrow/Bokra,” said organiser, Taymoor Marmarchi, the executive director of Global Gumbo Group.

The charity song Tomorrow/Bokra spent five weeks at the top of the region’s charts after being launched in Dubai in 2011. Since its release, the video has received more than 10 million views on YouTube and the proceeds from sales of the single have helped more than 5,000 children across the Arab world through the Bokra Arts Programmes, said Marmarchi.
