Mortdecai, also starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor, went into wide release in the US over the weekend and opens in Japan on February 6. The eccentric heist comedy tanked at the box office, making an estimated $4.1 million (Dh15 million) in North America and $5.2 million elsewhere, adding to a string of duds for Depp. The actor was greeted at the airport by about 1,000 screaming fans, some of them wearing mustaches in imitation of Depp’s film character.
