Coldplay rocker Chris Martin didn’t have his wedding ring on at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Awards on Thursday night, but that might be the only sign that his “conscious uncoupling” from Gwyneth Paltrow is really a break-up.
After sealing their split oddly with a family vacation to the Bahamas, the two have since ventured out together looking “lovey-dovey,” according to a People source. Martin and Paltrow reportedly held hands, laughed and joked while attending Robert Downey Jr.’s birthday party with their children, Apple and Moses, last Sunday.
Partygoers were surprised by the affectionate display to the point that the source said it wouldn’t be a surprise “if a report came out in a couple of weeks that they are back together.”
The two were still living together in Los Angeles earlier this week and spending a lot of time together, E! News reported. “You wouldn’t even know that they are a couple that are going their separate ways” if there hadn’t been an announcement that they were off, a source told the magazine.
But has that happy togetherness actually been a facade for a while now? On the dishy side of things, a source told Page Six that it was Martin’s idea to announce the split last month, whereas Paltrow was supposedly cool with keeping up appearances and representing as a couple.
“There was no chance they’d get back together, so he felt it was wrong to keep pretending,” the person said.
There did seem to be some sort of disconnect — or perhaps reluctance? — when it came to ditching the marital hardware: Paltrow was still wearing her ring on Sunday, TMZ reported, while Martin had shed his and was walking around in New York on Thursday bare-handed. The Iron Man actress was still wearing hers on Tuesday but was ringless the next day when she was spotted leaving Chateau Marmont, according to Us Weekly.
