Bill Cosby testified under oath in 2005 that he gave a tabloid an exclusive about sex-assault allegations made by a Canadian woman against him so it would spike a second accuser’s story.

The Associated Press on Wednesday obtained excerpts from Cosby’s 2005 deposition from federal court files unsealed in Philadelphia.

Cosby said he feared the public would believe the woman suing him if the other accuser’s story was published. Both women had accused Cosby of drugging and molesting them.

Cosby settled the civil lawsuit in 2006. He has refused to discuss allegations raised in recent weeks by numerous women.

National Enquirer representatives haven’t responded to emails sent on Wednesday about Cosby’s deposition.

Cosby also testified that the accuser who filed the suit asked only for an apology in early phone calls with him and she got one.
