Rajkot: Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor has tested positive for swine flu and is being treated at a private hospital here, an official said.

“Sonam Kapoor tested positive for swine flu today and she is being treated at Sterling hospital in the city,” Rajkot district collector Manisha Chandra said.

“She probably contracted swine flu from her physical trainer in Mumbai and by the time she came here she was already suffering from the symptoms,” added Chandra.

The 29-year-old actress is here to shoot for Rajshri Production’s upcoming film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in which she stars opposite Salman Khan.

State health commissioner J P Gupta said that the actress had mild fever and cold when she arrived here from Mumbai.

Dr Chirag Matravadiya, who is treating the actress, said she has been kept in isolation.

Sonam’s mother Sunita arrived here today and she was likely to fly her daughter back to Mumbai, said a source close to the actress.

Kapoor was hospitalised after she complained of cough, respiratory problems and mild fever, Medical Director of Sterling Hospital Dr Kamal Parikh told PTI.

Salman and director Sooraj Barjatya are shooting in Gondal near here for the last one week.

Sonam arrived in Gondal two-three days ago, but had to return to Mumbai as she was suffering from cough. She returned to Gondal yesterday, but had to be admitted in hospital, the source said.

She was admitted to Kokilaben Ambani hospital in Mumbai last month after contacting a respiratory infection.

Sonam, who is the daughter of actor and producer Anil Kapoor, is known for her roles in Delhi-6, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Doli Ki Doli.

Meanwhile, swine flu has claimed 36 more lives raising the toll to 1,041 even as the number of people affected by the H1N1 virus in the country breached the 19,000 mark on Saturday.

As per data collated by the Health Ministry, the total number of deaths due to swine flu was 1,041 till Friday while the number of people affected were 19,046.

In Rajasthan, the death toll has climbed to 257 while the number of those affected stood at 5,403.

As many as 256 people have died of the disease in Gujarat, which is among the worst affected states. So far, 4,162 people have been affected in the state.

In Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, the total number of deaths has been reported to be 151 and 131 respectively.

The disease has claimed 56 and 42 lives in Telangana and Punjab respectively. In Delhi, ten persons have died of swine flu while the number of affected has risen to 2,791.
