Singer Ed Sheeran has confirmed that he is single after splitting from his girlfriend Athina Andrelos, whom he dated for a year.
The 24-year-old singer and Andrelos were planning to move in together this year.
Sheeran’s confirmation comes just days after reports emerged that he had agreed to take a break from his relationship with Andrelos following a row over his antics at a Brit Awards after-party last month.
Asked on a radio show if he was dating anyone, Sheeran said: “I wasn’t single, I was in a relationship for a long time.”
When DJ Kyle Sandilands pressed him on the subject and asked if he is single now, the singer replied: “Yes.”
Following the confession, Sheeran appeared surprised that he had been asked the question.
Sandiland’s co-host Jackie O then said: “He looks like he’s about to start crying — you shouldn’t have asked that.”
“Erm ... well that’s interesting, that’s the first time I’ve spoken about that,” Sheeran added.
Sandiland was then very apologetic for asking if he was single, insisting he didn’t realise the couple had split. But the singer replied: “I didn’t know you were going to ask.”
