Award-winning actor-filmmaker Rajat Kapoor, Kalki Koechlin, Vinay Pathak, Ranveer Shorey and Padmaavat’s Jim Sarbh will be staging a two-part Shakespeare Comedy Theatre Festival (SCTF) in the UAE.

The Bollywood actors will perform in four comical adaptations of William Shakespeare’s memorable plays, namely King Lear, Macbeth, Hamlet and As You Like It.

The first production will be staged at the Abu Dhabi National Theatre on March 9 and 10, with two plays on each day, followed by performances in Dubai on April 20 and 21 at the Shaikh Rashid Auditorium, Indian High School.

Other notable artists who will be performing include Neil Bhoopalam, Cyrus Sahukar, Aadhar Malik and Namit Das. More names are to be announced closer to the date.

SCTF is the brainchild of Kapoor who founded the company in 2014, with the idea itself borrowed from his own 1992 play, C for Clown. The group started out revisiting the Bard’s critically acclaimed plays, revisiting Hamlet as The Clown Prince. This was followed up by Nothing Like Lear, I Don’t Like It — As You Like It and Macbeth, What Is Done Is Done.

The award-winning plays are centred on a clown company, with Pathak playing the protagonist, Soso the clown.

Tickets for the Abu Dhabi performance are on sale online, with performances at 4pm and 7.30pm on both days. Prices start from Dh150.
