Hashtags have become such a big part of tech culture today that it’s rare to find anyone who doesn’t know what they are. It is simply a way for people to search for tweets that have a common topic. For example, if you type #Desserts into the Search box on your Twitter account, you’ll get a list of tweets related to desserts. While hashtags originally started with Twitter, they quickly spread across other social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. But using hashtags is sometimes tricky. We also face the danger of overusing them; when your sentence is filled with more blue hashtags than real words, you’re doing something wrong.

I have always believed that ‘less’ is often ‘more’ and I recently took to hashtags too, correction — one hashtag. And this one pretty much sums up everything that I am putting across to all my readers, viewers and friends in the cyber world, #InspireUma. It hasn’t been too long, but if the massive response I have received is anything to go by, then I suppose this hashtag is here to stay.

So what is Inspire Uma all about? If you click on the hashtag, a number of posts will reveal themselves to you, and they cover all aspects of my life or any woman’s life. It all began several years ago, when I would have working women, mothers and teenage girls coming up to me and asking about my journey. “How did you lose your pregnancy fat?”, “How do you keep your skin looking so fresh all the time?” “How do you maintain such long hair?” and a host of other questions that every woman wants to know the answers to. I’ve had these questions too, and I unravelled the answers through the years, and through the numerous inspiring people I have met from various fields. Every person I have met has taught me something valuable. Sometimes they have given me guidance and a way forward, and sometimes they have shot down my dreams. But either way I have always taken something from them. This is one quality in me that has seen me through my darkest days. At an early age I understood that life is the biggest classroom and it’s best that I take in all the lessons I come across.

Through self-help books, biographies and interviews, I slowly gather strength to make all parts of my life strong and effective. Nothing gives me more joy than to share the experience with those who are following my journey, and this is how #InspireUma was born. I invite you all to be a part of my journey forward. When we inspire each other we all rise. #ThankYouForReading
