Dubai: The local music scene here is just getting more interesting.

The great mix of cultures the city breeds has led to a fusion of talents from diverse cultures, the sum of which is both astonishing and enriching.

In a big, cosmopolitan city, like-minded people tend to congregate. So it was natural gravitation that lead an eclectic fusion of community-based musicians — to perform live on the same stage.

The result is “World Voices”, a concert that features three Dubai-based groups representing an fascinating blend — which also promises to enthrall and entertain.

The event features diverse groups spanning both the East and the West:

The Italians

They’re a band of Italian friends who share the passion for the music — in particular for the traditional Italian songs blended with some international hits. These musically inclined group of Italians naturally gravitated toward each other and formed the band in the UAE just a few months ago. They had already performed in a number of events at The Flag Island in Sharjah and at Café Rider in Dubai.

Avega

Avega (Sanskrit for ‘passion’) is a company that’s quite passionate in what they do. Founded by Shruthi Rameshan and Hitesh Rajani, ADC is a the Dubai-based, locally-grown dance theatre production house and workshop studio.

They are the same people behind productions like RaaS, Malang, Master Who, ArtInMotion etc staged in multiple local venues like DUCTAC, The Junction, Al Quoz Arts Fest. Their choreographies have travelled as far as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

With a multifaceted group of core company members, Mariyam Kisat, Vrinda Bhandula, Harsh Joshi and Allan David Jonathan winning Short N Sweet Duet, the company is now exploring musical collaborations with theatre and dance.

They fuse Indian classical, contemporary, lyrical and folk music and dance with global influences and tell substantial and meaningful stories through the performing arts.

Camerata

The Dubai Camerata Singers is a professional ensemble, composed of professional Filipino singers who have day jobs in various fields in Dubai. Started by 10 alumni singers from their college choir, the members decided to continue their passion for chorale music under the direction of Arne Sunico Lubasan.

Currently, Dubai Camerata Singers — now open to other nationalities — has 22 active members. The Dubai chorale group is renowned for their diverse repertoire and performing excellence.

The choir recently won the Best Performance award at the Short+Sweet Voices choral competition in Dubai, besting more than 150 other participants.
