Iconic South African trumpeter, composer and human rights advocator Hugh Masekela has confirmed a new date for his Dubai Opera show; he will now perform on March 8, 2018. The 78-year-old had to postpone his original performance date in December due to ill-health and under advice from his doctors.
Renowned across the world for his Afro-Jazz sound, Masekela was born in the town of Witbank, South Africa, in 1939. He began to hone his unique skills in the 1950s during a period of intense creative collaboration, most notably performing in the 1959 musical King Kong, written by Todd Matshikiza, and, soon thereafter, as a member of the now legendary South African group, the Jazz Epistles.
With a career spanning seven decades, Masekela has released more than 40 albums and counts collaborations with some of the most respected artists of all time, from Harry Belafonte, Dizzy Gillespie, The Byrds, Fela Kuti and Marvin Gaye, to Herb Alpert, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder and the late Miriam Makeba.
All customers with tickets for the original performance will be contacted in the coming days directly by Dubai Opera to arrange for replacement tickets to be issued. Tickets starting at Dh195 are now on sale.
