Artist Christo Vladimirov Javacheff, more popularly known as Christo and famed for his environmental works of art, has singed a Letter of Cooperation (LOC) with the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF).

The LOC was signed in a ceremony at New York University in Abu Dhabi by Huda Al Khamis-Kanoo, founder of ADMAF, and Christo, following the unveiling of the winner of the 2017 Christo & Jeanne-Claude Award.

The partnership focuses on joint educational activities that foster learning and development of the visual arts, with a focus on the visual arts practitioners, students and young people of the UAE.

At the event, Al Khamis-Kanoo said; “Since ADMAF’s first collaboration with Christo in 2012 it has been clear that our missions and visions align. ADMAF has worked for more than 20 years to nurture generations of creative practitioners with the goal of creating an ecosystem for culture and creative education in the UAE. We are delighted to reaffirm our partnership with Christo as we look ahead to many more years of collaboration. Relationships such as this further ADMAF’s role as an incubator for the arts, facilitating ties between the UAE and the cultural sector worldwide.”

Christo said: “It has been five years since the first display of a public artwork by a winner of the NYUAD Christo and Jeanne Claude award and I’m very happy that with ADMAF’s commitment and support participation in the award continues to grow every year.”

ADMAF and Christo first collaborated in 2012 when The Christo & Jeanne-Claude Award was launched as an annual initiative under the patronage of Shaikha Shamsa Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan and in partnership with New York University Abu Dhabi. In addition, Christo has joined forces with ADMAF for its Ways of Seeing programme of visual arts workshops and talks in university and college campuses across the UAE.
