Sharjah: Acclaimed Lebanese singer Majida El Roumi will perform at Al Majaz Amphitheatre on Friday to raise funds for destitute and refugee children around the world.

Proceeds from the charity concert will go to the Big Heart Foundation.

Organised by Sharjah Media Centre (SMC), this is the singer’s first concert in Sharjah.

Majida, known as the ‘Angel of Arab Tarab Music’ and ‘Favourite Singer of Intellectuals’ is one of the most successful Arab singers in the world. Her accomplishments range from traditional Lebanese songs and operettas to pop music.

She has been influenced by famous Arab musicians and singers, notably Fairuz, Mohammad Abdul Wahab, Umm Kulthoum, Abdul Halim Hafez and Asmahan.

Majida welcomed the idea of the charity concert. “I am proud to join hands with the Big Heart Foundation to raise hope among children suffering as a result of wars and natural disasters. I believe this will put a smile on their faces. I am confident that good and peace will finally prevail in the world,” she said.

Osama Samra, SMC director, said: “Sharjah has played a leading role in the advocacy of humanitarian issues. The concert comes in line with the SMC efforts to enhance the presence of Sharjah and highlight the emirate’s growing approach toward hosting the most prestigious concerts performed by renowned singers and artists.

The Big Heart Foundation was launched by Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammad Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and eminent advocate for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, to provide protection to refugee children worldwide and ensure a better future for them.

Sponsored by Tilal Properties, the concert will start at 9.30pm. Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.ae.
