Two big wins

Rabbah de Carrere ran second to Naseem in the Al Maktoum Challenge Round I over 1,600 metres here at Meydan in January, when the distance seemed too short for him.

He has since won two valuable races, snubbing a pair of high-class rivals in the process. He was a comfortable winner of the Al Maktoum Series Round II in February. Stepping up 2,200 metres suited the son of Bibi de Carrere perfectly, and he won by almost two lengths from Versac Py. With a stylish run from the back, Rabbah de Carrere was produced to lead 300 metres from the line. Versac Py gave chase after having been ridden similarly, but never posed a serious threat. Rabbah de Carrere followed up in the HH The President’s Cup at Abu Dhabi ten days later, when he proved a neck too strong for another Kahayla Classic contender, Raaziq.

While the latter advertised the form of that event by winning on Super Saturday, Rabbah de Carrere was rested and thus comes fresh into the championship race on World Cup night. That would certainly count in his favour, as would a strong early pace.
