Abu Dhabi: The transit visa rules for the United Kingdom have changed effective December 1, officials at the UK Embassy in Dubai said.

Under the new rules, when Emirati, Omani, or Qatari nationals are transiting landside — for example, arriving at one airport and leaving from another or passing through border control to collect luggage for connecting flights — then they must hold a valid Electronic Visa Waiver [EVW] document.

As an EVW permits single entry only, a separate EVW is needed for each landside transit, said the embassy in a statement.

Otherwise one must be a UK visitor on a transit visa or must have a valid UK visa.

Travellers must have a valid document and arrive and depart the UK by air or have a confirmed onward flight which leaves the UK by 23.59 hours the day after they arrive in the UK.

They must also have the proper documents for the destination such as a visa for destination country.

Embassy officials said travellers can check for further details on the UKinUAE website.
