Dubai: I just had a first look at the successor to the BMW 1 Series Convertible and it looks amazing.

The four-seater BMW 2 Series Convertible is the third and latest car in the BMW 2 series line-up, and joins the Coupe and Active Tourer at showrooms in the UAE and the Middle East.

BMW Group Middle East described the latest arrival as "the most emotive, classy and agile car in its segment".

The drop-top model takes on a hybrid look of the sporty BMW 2 Series and the elegant open-top BMW. The design emphasises the car’s “boat deck” character with the roof down.

The electrically operated soft-top roof can be opened or closed in 20 seconds when travelling at a speed up to 50 km/h, courtesy of a new folding mechanism and a revised headliner to give it more aesthetics. BMW said the design included an improvement in noise insulation.

The interiors definitely carry "more premium character", with leather trimmings and a host of BMW ConnectedDrive features.

But what makes this newest car unique is it's the first model to offer the new-generation Navigation System Professional, which allows navigation data to be updated “over the air” via the embedded SIM card.

There are three engine variants to choose from. The BMW 220i Convertible 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine has an output of 184 hp and top speed of 231 km/h. Meanwhile, the BMW 228i Convertible 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine with 245 hp has a top speed of 250 km/h.

The sportiest  model variant comes in the shape of the BMW M235i Convertible M Performance featuring a 3.0 litre BMW M Performance TwinPower Turbo straight-six engine, which has an output of 326 hp to deliver 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds and a specially tuned M suspension.
