This year’s Dubai International Boat Show, which opened Tuesday, has attracted first-time boat buyers, as it offers a range of small to medium-sized vessels.

According to a statement on Thursday from the Dubai World Trade Centre, the show’s organisers, some of the vessels that are on display at the show include boats, jet skis and quad skis among others.

“It is my first time at the show, and I’ve just become an owner for the first time at the entry level. When you live in this market, you have to be involved in the sea and all things boating,” said Philip Bryson, senior vice-president for operations at hotel chain, Marriott International, in the statement.

Similarly, Maher Wali, chief executive of local outdoor furnishing company, Grass It Up, said that he is considering buying a new speedboat at the show. “I am considering buying a new speedboat, and I have been talking to Riva who have a nice new collection of boats and interiors.”

One exhibitor said that he has noticed a growing trend of young residents wanting to be out on the water but are not able to purchase an expensive boat.

“Practically anyone can afford to buy a kayak, or a standup paddleboard, and a part of their popularity relates directly to their affordability,” said Sterenn Bourges, chief executive and owner of SeaYou, a supplier of stand-up paddleboards and other non-motorised equipment.
