Dubai: The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) is set to expand, making space for more events and exhibitions, according to a statement from the centre on Sunday.

The centre is expected to see the addition of 15,500 square metres of space, taking the total capacity to more than 122,000 square metres.

Located adjacent to the existing Zabeel Hall complex, the new halls — called Zabeel 4, 5 and 6 — will form the extension beyond Halls 1, 2 and 3. Construction is expected to start later this month, with the extension becoming operational from the first quarter of 2016.

The new event space is expected to cater to the emirate’s portfolio growth over the next five years and support increases in Dubai’s business tourism traffic.

“Dubai is already recognised as a leading events destination globally, and further development of the DWTC complex allows us to position ourselves as a dominant force in the international events delivery arena,” said Helal Saeed Almarri, chief executive of the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), in the statement.

The three new halls will have four meeting rooms, VIP majlis spaces, organiser offices, and services and amenities such as medical service zones, and food and beverage outlets, among others.

Also, a new 300-car park area will have the flexibility to be transitioned into a 6,000 square metre tented temporary event area.

“The expansion of our venue will provide the supporting platform for home-grown local and regional businesses, as well as global corporations, to take greater advantage of commercial prospects being made available through existing events, and new entrants into the 2016 calendar,” Almarri said.
