Dubai: For those looking to spend more time on the water, the Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS) opens on Tuesday.

The show, now in its 23rd edition, will feature 430 boats worth Dh1 billion. Visitors can view a range of vessels, including sailing boats, kayaks and luxury yachts.

The show, which runs until March 7, will feature more than 45 global and regional launches. Ajman-based boat manufacturer Gulf Craft will launch the $10 million Majesty 122 super yacht, while Al Shaali Marine will showcase a 30-metre super yacht.

“The Dubai International Boat Show 2015 is perfect for a family day out with an exciting range of prize giveaways and activities taking place amidst the world’s most exclusive boats and maritime brands on display,” said Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice-President of the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), the show’s organiser, in a statement.

The event will not just feature boats. It will also have three interactive zones, each for sailing, watersports and fishing, where visitors can get specialist advice and view products.

Similarly, people can visit the Marine Talks zone to learn from global sailing, fishing and water sports experts.

The UAE maritime industry is valued at more than $61 billion, according to a statement from DWTC, citing data from the Dubai Council for Marine and Maritime Industries.

The maritime sector contributes Dh14 billion towards Dubai’s GDP [gross domestic product], LohMirmand said last week.

Visitors that want to experience sailing can take part in the Match Race on March 6 and 7.

The show will also allow visitors to particpate in competitions to win scuba diving vouchers, boat and limousine rides, stays and dining at luxury hotels, and maritime footwear and accessories.

The event, which is open to the public, is held at the Dubai International Marine Club — Mina Seyahi from 3pm to 9:30pm daily, with an admission fee of Dh60.
